My boss called me into his office.

"Thanks for coming. Now, I know you're not going to want to hear this, but we want you to manage the help desk again."

"What? But we agreed that I'd be allowed to move to a different department! I think I've been doing pretty decent work there, too!"

"I know, but since you've left things have gotten pretty disorganized, and we've been starting to get complaints from the users. I can't let things get any worse, so you'll have to go back, at least until we find a replacement for you."

"Listen. I've put my time in. I'm relatively happy now. Rather than go back to help desk I'd poke out my own left eye."

My boss sighed. "I was afraid you'd feel that way. There's nothing I can do to convince you?"

I shook my head.

"Very well. Doctor?"

A man in a white lab coat came in from the next room. As a couple of orderlies held me to keep me from struggling, he injected me with something. The room went dark. Then...

I've never looked back.
