Fun!

Top 10 reasons to do phone support:

  1. Lack of exposure to sunshine decreases risk of skin cancer.
  2. "Mute" button works fairly reliably. Most of the time.
  3. Can make faces, wave fists, and commit ritual suicide without customer knowledge.
  4. Hones multitasking skills--can you drink coffee, read atsr, and help some moron configure dialup networking all at the same time?
  5. Can occasionally convince customers that you can see their screen.
  6. Get to lead customers on an endless journey of enlightenment as they learn the location and purpose of the caps lock key.
  7. Sympathetic bosses who let you take your bathroom break a couple of minutes early.
  8. Changing shifts disrupt sleep schedule, leave you prepared for emergency plane trips to Siberia.
  9. Twitches are actually fairly good exercise.
  10. "Oh, I'm sorry, we must have been disconnected."
Top 10 reasons to do internal support:
  1. Feeling of accomplishment when you finally track down the consultant who stole your mail server's IP address for his laptop.
  2. Get to chat with sysadmins who are even more jaded than you are.
  3. Easier to set boobietraps.
  4. Physical proximity to troublesome machines increases chance you'll be able to personally toss them out a window someday.
  5. Increased social life--since users know what you look like they may stop you on the street at any time with a question!
  6. Allows more opportunities to practice your "don't-even-think-of- asking-me-anything-in-fact-why-don't-you-turn-around-and-leave-right- now" look.
  7. Pornographic pictures on VP's PC can be used for fun or profit.
  8. You get to bathe in the worship of your users, who are convinced that you know everything about every software package under the sun. (Or at least that you should be.)
  9. Get to see the look on users' faces when you tell them that their problem is unsupported.
  10. If you come in early enough and leave late enough you may actually be able to get some work done!
