There are also a number of smaller mailing lists. I'm in charge of the mailing list server, but I don't send out any of the mailings.
A luser who's in charge of one of the smaller mailing lists came in to me late on Friday and asked, "Is the mailing list server busy right now? I tried to send out my mailing but I didn't get anything back." [He was expecting a confirmation request back.]
I had noticed that the biggest mailing list had had an announcement go out over it recently, so I said, "Yeah, the [mailing list name] mailing went out not too long ago."
He replied, "How does that happen? Why do the same mailings go out at the same time every week?"
I said, "Uh, I think they're scheduled."
He said, "Oh, yeah." Then he paused and thought for a moment or two and said, "Mine is."
Thank you, you've been a wonderful audient,
