Why assume the user is the problem? (ST102315)

An anthro professor sent some mail to HELP containing the following text:

RE: my problem with Slip. Why do you guys always assume the problem is with the user. I can connect to SLIP fine.
The following answers come to mind:
  1. Because 99% of the time it is.
  2. Scientific induction.
    1. But you wouldn't know about that, being in the Anthro department.
  3. Because it's fun.

Anyone think of others?

PS. The problem may be that he's using an unsupported modem.
