an oil painting of my eyes

Quilt

A few years back I participated in a 'quilt challenge' in which the participants were given five fabrics; one fabric could be dropped and two could be added at the quilter's discretion. This resulted in the one quilt I have ever made, a 31-inch-square number I called Blueberry Pie.

Oil Paintings

I took a course in figure painting the summer of 1999 which I enjoyed. The vast majority of the paintings were done on pieces of cardboard approximately 26 by 37 1/2 inches; all paintings were with oil paint.

For most of the homework assignments I did self-portraits. The first painting I did was this self-portrait.

a picture of me

The following self-portrait shows me wearing a Power Computing T-shirt given to me by a friend. I spent so much time working on the T-shirt that by the time I got to painting myself, I was pretty worn out. I think this shows not only in the crude, Roz Chast-ish treatment of my face but also in my expression, though this was not intentional.

The following self-portrait was done on a 5 by 24 inch piece of masonite.

In-class assignments were figure paintings.

Charcoal Drawings

Emboldened by my enjoyment of the summer course, the fall of 1999 I took a course in figure drawing. Here are a few of the pieces I think I was more successful with.

For the following drawing we were told to draw using our non-dominant hands, so I drew it with my left hand. I was surprised with the result.

Floorcloths

In the summer of 2001, I took a course on floorcloths at the Worcester Crafts Center. Here's a few of the floorcloths I made.
