Anyway, I need some nice cheery stories.

Here is a story from my youth.

One summer when I was in junior high school, my family decided to take a cross-country trip, starting from Massachusetts, taking a southern route to California, and then returning on a northern route. It was very enjoyable. We travelled in a '78 Chevy Van which my father had retrofitted for travelling, so there were plenty of compartments to stow stuff and soft surfaces to sleep on and a way to set up a table inside if necessary.

We were driving through a park in the southwest one day when suddenly the van came to a sudden halt. All loose items in the back of the van immediately slid up to the front of the van. Me and the other kids who were in the back of the van, most of whom had been zoning out, came alert in a moment. What horrible event could have made my father stop the van so precipitously? I stumbled to the front of the van to see what was up.

"Look! A tarantula!" my father said, pointing to the side of the road. We quietly watched the tarantula inch its way down the road for a few minutes. Then we drove on.
