  1. While working, I received email from a customer who misspelled ampersands as amperstands. Wondering if this was in fact a little-known alternative spelling of the word, I checked a few dictionary sites and verified that no, it isn't. I then did the indicated search to see if anyone else had made this oddly euphonious typo. It turned out that a few people had, including some who should really have known better.

  2. Insulting someone for misspelling a word is generally considered poor form on USENET, although some misspellings have gained a peculiar sort of notoriety on alt.religion.kibology, notably peanus.
